Rev. Steven Oeverman
Rev. Steve Oeverman was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was baptized and made profession of faith as a member of the Christian Reformed Church. Steve is a graduate of Calvin College, Bethlehem College and Seminary, and Westminster Seminary California. After completing the Master of Divinity at Westminster, Steve served for a time with the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. In 2005, he was called to serve as an associate minister of Escondido United Reformed Church and executive vice president of Westminster Seminary California. In 2012, he was called to Grace United Reformed Church of Portland, Oregon. After 13 years, the Lord called Rev. Oeverman to serve the congregation of Oak Glen, where he was installed as minister of the Word and sacraments on August 19, 2025.
Steve and his wife Kathryn met at Calvin College and were married in 1995. Their first home was in Holland, Michigan where they became founding members of the Covenant PCA. Steve worked as a project engineer in the automotive industry and Kathryn worked as an elementary teacher in the charter school system. After moving to Minneapolis for graduate studies at Bethlehem College and Seminary, Steve and Kathryn were blessed with their first daughter, Elizabeth (born 2000, now married to Ben). After moving to Escondido, California their family continued to grow with Annaliese (born 2002, married to Ian), Olyvia (born 2004, engaged to Jacob), Amelie (born 2006), and Ellyson (born 2008). By God’s grace, their five daughters + husbands + fiancé have been and continue to be a great encouragement to their parents!
The Oevermans have a very active household. The priorities of family, church, and school bring a lot of joy. Steve’s weeks are filled with being a husband, father, minister, and teacher, an active member of classis, and a trustee of Westminster California. Kathryn spends her time as wife and mother and is enjoying getting to know their new congregation at Oak Glen. Hobbies? “We love to go on dates together, spend time with the kids, and share hospitality with our church and neighbors.”
After 30 years of marriage, Steve and Kathryn continue in the passion that brought them together: “To glorify God and enjoy him forever – in Christ”.
